Democrats Slam Door On Fiscal Responsibility Activists (VIDEO)
Written by Bob Fois on July 22, 2009
Like most liberal Democrats nationwide, New York’s congressional delegation has gambled that tax protestors will eventually lose interest … and go away.
But last week on Long Island, nearly 500 residents merged outside the offices of U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, including making visits to Congressmen Steven Israel and Tim Bishop. It was all part of a national protest over socialized healthcare on July 17th that “The American Spectator” predicted would test the depth of conservative activism.
“… The health care debate will be a good test as to whether the tea party movement can mobilize its grassroots energy around a specific purpose and actually present a counterweight to the well-financed and organized liberal movement.”
“They aren’t going home,“ explained Steve Flanagan, who coordinates Conservative Society for Action (CSA).
Democrats ran for cover.
The YouTube video below (below 1) recorded a Sen. Schumer staffer slamming the door in someone’s face. Rep. Gillibrand’s staff scurried off with police escort. Rep. Israel hasn’t met yet with protestors. Tim Bishop warned Suffolk County police about “a disturbance” – as if this team of octogenarians and middle-aged homeowners were dangerous?
“It was loud. There were a lot of people there. That was the idea,” said Flanagan. “But it was peaceful.”
Another YouTube video (below 2) recorded by CSA documented the reading of a proclamation outside Schumer’s offices. They also have video of their “counter rally” to a recent Move-on.org lobbying effort.
The Founders would have been proud. This civically engaged rabble rousing has flipped the political paradigm on its ass. For the first time since the 1960s, a usually quiet home front has discovered that they like being radical. It’s libertarian bliss – being exercised by unabashed conservatives.
Democrats can’t cope. Schumer won’t comment. Like most Democrats, Israel has no statement on these growing movements. Gillibrand’s spokesperson called back but offered a repeated “nope” when asked for some response to the tea parties. Tim Bishop’s office hung up when contacted for a statement.
“They wrote the book and they’re not prepared for it,” observed Flanagan.
It’s “Rules for Radicals”, in reverse.
Saul Alinsky’s primer for young activists in the 1970s has been described by FOX News host Glenn Beck as President Barack Obama’s playbook to panic America into political submission. In response, citizens are learning how to panic politicians.
Academia doesn’t have the monopoly on rebellion anymore. College students can counter culture against the left. Bloggers are challenging mainstream media. Twitter has turned word of mouth viral. Even basic cell phones are leaving digital prints. You-Tube ensures that broadcast news is not the only show in town.
Tea Parties around the nation utilize Twitter and radio/television broadcasts to get their message out.
Flanagan admitted a frustration over a lack of news coverage.
“You just can’t crack into a story,” he said. “They’re purposely not covering us. What does it take, marching on the Brooklyn Bridge and holding up traffic?”
Society for Action’s website is its own television show. It’s not just exposure. It’s evidence. Democrats hide under their desks whenever activists show up is that they know the digital camera will be on. They’re avoiding accountability.
Congressman Tim Bishop pretended in his comments to police to be “intimidated” and warned authorities that “there is going to be a disturbance.”
“It’s called people exercising their right of First Amendment speech,” Flanagan emphasized.
Newsbusters noted how an MSNBC anchor scrutinized the tea parties as “offensive” –
On Friday, MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall exclaimed: “Harsh political discourse against [President Obama] really amped up and people started to push the boundaries of what might be considered decency. From talk radio to those tea parties that we saw with some pretty offensive signs folks were holding, even in the presence of children. The anger has certainly intensified.”
At 55, his fiscal angst came naturally.
“I’m old enough that I didn’t need to read ‘Rules For Radicals’,” Flanagan admitted, “I watched it happen.
Some politicians are looking to capitalize, “Everybody wants to be our friend.”
Not everyone. The national media continues to under-report the activism. Republicans and conservatives are still the bad guys. Liberals are making new rules, re-tooling Homeland Security regulation to possibly suppress and monitor protestors.
Rabble rousers like Steve Flanagan aren’t daunted, “Whatever it takes.”
