Since Rihanna brought punk/couture mainstream it seems that everyone has begun to follow her lead. Yes there were other starlets who attempted to be forerunners with this particular look, however they failed miserably. When Rihanna first cut her locks everyone loved and copied her stylish bob. As she became more confident in her new found identity she cut more, and more, off until she eventually had only the top left with close to bald sides. This worked for the singer. This edgy look both enhanced, and solidified her place as a potential fashion icon. What I have trouble understanding is why did so many girls begin shaving their heads as well? What works for Rihanna ladies does not always work for you.
As I left church on Sunday I noticed several women with what is commonly know as the Rihanna. The Rihanna consists of the sides, and back of the head closely shaven with only the top coif left to be either straightened or curled as desired. What strikes me as even more bizarre is these same women claim to be individuals based off of their overall pseudo style effect. These women that cut their hair in this style claim that they are self inspired, and stray from mainstream pop culture. If that is true why are there so many women who all look almost identical with the same hair cut, and punk rock style?
Maybe Rihanna copied someone else’s style, who knows. However it is clear that you all have meticulously copied her style and now pretend that you invented this now popular look. Give it up stop cutting your hair in an effort to separate yourselves for the others. Yes you have separated yourselves from one group only to join another. At first I enjoyed this look, however just like most fads, it has ran its course. What will you do when Rihanna appears next week with long locks, and you’ve cut yours all off and what was once in, is now as out dated as polyester?
Get an identity of your own. Stop looking to these celebrities for fashion advice and cultivate your own sense of style. What you don’t seem to understand is that these celebs have a team of stylists and are not coming up with these fashion trends themselves. They know just as much about fashion as the next person. Hey I have a fashion tip for you ladies looking to separate yourselves and garner an identity all your own; instead of shaving the sides leave them as they are, and go straight down the center. That should get you the attention you so desperately crave!

couldn’t agree more! it’s like hipsters…there’s like a uniform if you want to be one and everyone looks the same.

this is how fashion evolves. not that i advocate every going out and getting the same haircut, but this has been happening for years. celebrities become fashion icons. they inspire styles. it shouldn’t be any surprise that you could probably trace most things back to the famous person who wore them first. even discussing this is a waste of time. blah blah blah.
