Fantasy Football Week 4

Written by Michael Genovese on October 2, 2009

Fantasy Matchups Week 4

It’s the start of the bye weeks in the NFL and the pressure is on all fantasy players to pick and choose the right matchups in order to be successful. For instance, you don’t want to blow it like Al Pacino did and start a shaky Cap when you have Steamin Willie Beaman on the bench. It’s really simple to pick the right matchups. Granted they don’t always work out but that is football. What a fantasy player has to do week in and week out his put his best foot forward. As long as you are confident you started the right guy you can feel good about yourself. I am going to give you what I think are some good matchups this week.

The first quality matchup that I see comes from a strange place. The Redskins might have lost to the Lions but Santana Moss and Jason Campbell both had top 5 fantasy days. Campbell threw for 340 yards and 2 touchdowns. Moss caught 10 balls for 178 yards and a score. This week the matchup is just as favorable.

The Tampa Bucs are just as bad as the Lions if not worse. The Bucs are letting up 432 yards per game. 245 of those yards are coming through the air and 187 on the ground. Their defense has more holes in it then Liberal economic policy. I would look to start Jason Campbell if your starting quarterback has a bye week. I would also look to start Clinton Portis if he is healthy (he is suffering from a strained calf but should be ready to play) Santana Moss, and Chris Cooley. They could all have break out games as the Redskins look to right the ship after their embarrassing loss from last week.

Also take a good look at Cedric Benson. He has been the driving force behind the Bengals all year. At this point if you have Benson on your team it would be wise to start him every week until he proves you wrong. If you have quality running backs and find yourself looking at your fantasy bench saying, “Where can I fit Benson in” this is the week. He is going against the Cleveland Browns. All I can say about the Browns is “WOW THEY ARE REALLY BAD.” The Browns are letting up 412 yards a game so far this year, 184 of those yards come via the ground. Last year Benson rushed for a career high 171 yards. Benson could wind up leading all running backs in fantasy points this week.

If you have wide receivers on a bye week and you are looking for a quick fix make sure you look hard at Mario Manningham from the New York Giants. The Giants number one receiver right now is Steve Smith. No not that Steve Smith, but the other Steve Smith. If he is available in your league you should grab him too but I feel that Manningham will be available and will shine. The Chiefs are letting up 243 yards a game and 28 points per game. That spells blow out city for the Giants. They will roll the Chiefs this week and Manningham should have a big day.

Good luck in your fantasy travels. Remember the most important thing is to do what you want in the end. It is all a crap shoot anyway. I mean if anyone thought Brent Celek from the Eagles was going to lead all tight ends in fantasy points through 3 weeks of football I would have told them they were crazier than Michael Moore.
