How to Detect a Religious Whack Job

2_61_102209_pastorBeing able to detect a religious whack-job when you see one is an important skill. Therefore, I’d like to thank North Carolina’s Pastor Marc Grizzard for helping me out by fulfilling all of the criteria.

Here are a few key indicators in sniffing out your whack-job.

#1: Did he do something so crazy it made a major news outlet? Yep. Pastor Marc got coverage on Fox News by hosting a book burning event.

#2: Does he like to burn books? Yep. Pastor Marc is having a big book burning party on Halloween. I don’t think they plan on distributing candy.

#3: Is he a complete hypocrite? Yep. Pastor Marc book-burning list includes THE BIBLE. Why? Because according to Pastor Marc, the King James version of the Bible is the only true version. The rest of them are totally Satanic.

He’s a hypocrite because anyone with a rudimentary understanding of Hebrew can tell you that the King James version of the Bible contains a staggering number of translation errors. (Want proof? These guys did the research and did it fairly well.)

The King James Bible translation works off of a Greek translation that many Jewish scholars were forced to make in unfavorable conditions. As any linquist can tell you, translating a translation never yields perfect results.

What’s upsetting here is that Pastor Marc will no doubt end up burning books that are holy to somebody reading this article. I know I would be outraged if he were to heave a Judaic text into that bonfire of his.

So, again, just for clarity, this is a clear-cut religious whack-job. As an Orthodox Jew, I always try to empathize with the deeply religious. I just can’t find common ground with this guy. Sure, there are plenty of books out there that Jews like myself consider heretical, but we don’t seek them out and burn them. That’s just rude.

Has anybody ever converted to Pastor Marc’s religion because someone snatched a book out of their hand and torched it? I’m guessing not.

It’s almost as offensive as the recent media campaign that the Atheists have embarked on. What does it do for them to try and make other people Atheist? They stand to gain nothing from this campaign, yet they persist on trying to spread their empty words across the country.

I think the Atheists who funded this campaign should go to Pastor Marc’s book burning. When all’s said and done, it won’t be about who believes more. It’ll be about who’s got better martial arts training.

Plus, there’s going to be barbeque. That sounds tasty.
