Crossing The Line

Written by Brooke Musterman on October 28, 2009

552px-DavidCross2007David Cross, of Arrested Development fame has made a shocking admission that he snorted cocaine 40 feet from the president.

This admission should be taken with a grain of salt, however. He is, after all a comedian. It’s hard to tell what hyperbole passes for truth in a comic’s life? Cross’s routine is filled with drug references.

Let’s consider for a moment that this is possibly true. Cross and his girlfriend Amber Tamblyn were seated “super close” to the president at the recent White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. Of course it wouldn’t be at all strange for Cross to consider it an appropriate time to do coke. Who wouldn’t?

If true, it more than likely is a case of trying to “do one better” between friends. The Politico reports that after the alleged stunt, he texted his friend, Vice Magazine founder, Gavin McInnes. saying, “No way you can ever top that.”

You see, five years ago, the two men made a trip to the DEA museum, where McInnes did a bump of coke and challenged Cross to “top that.”

And top it, he did.

Cross said that he was seated with or near former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, former Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and “the editor-in-chief of the USA Today.”

This is the same guy who has said, “[being high] makes me kind of dumb and self-conscious. I don’t necessarily have that great of a time when I’m high. If I do get high, I’m usually pretty drunk already, so that just exacerbates the whole situation and I just stop having fun. Also, if I’m at some stranger’s house party it just makes me want to leave quicker. And people get disappointed.”

“But it’s crazy and there’s security, Secret Service is standing there … I’ve got photos of all this. I’m there and the president is right here and with all these people at the table”

He has yet to produce the photos. So until then, he’ll keep us guessing.
