Staff Picks: Last Horror Picks Before Halloween!

Written by Parcbench on October 30, 2009

During the month of October, we thought it would be fun if the Parcbench writing staff gave us some of their favorite horror movie picks. Any of these ought to be worth checking out if you love a good scare that doesn’t involve congress.

As a fan of low-grade entertainment ranging from B-horror to Monty Python, I had only one choice: Dead Alive. Sure, many of you have probably never heard of this film, and that’s a shame. Before Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson director low-budget horror flicks, and he did it with the same zeal he put into bringing Middle Earth to life. Dead Alive, though relatively old in horror terms, still leads most films in sheer blood flow, creatively disgusting disembowelings, and campy humor. It’s got zombies, a priest who kicks ass for the lord, and a very uncomfortable scene involving custard. Make sure you get the unrated version.

-Sid Bridge

Seeing that tomorrow is Halloween, it would be a shame if we didn’t highlight the film that bears the same name.  Of course, there were many Halloween films, but the first two are really the best.  There isn’t whole lot scarier than the thought of being stuck in a understaffed hospital late at night hiding from Michael Myers!

Under rated horrow movie: The Decent. Especially if you're clostrophobic like I am, this movie will mess you up.
