One of the greatest gangster films ever made, Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas, is my film of the week. For most of us, we were hooked upon hearing the words “as far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.”
The film is based on Nicholas Pileggi’s Wise Guy, which is about the life of Henry Hill (played in the film by Ray Liotta) who spent many years in the mob. We see Hill’s life traced from his younger years as a small time crook to a made man and eventually into witness protection. This cautionary tale is one of the most in-your-face accounts of the mobster lifestyle.
The documentary-style narration also ads an element of realism that is unmatched in any other gangster film. Goodfellas is full if iconic scenes, including Joe Pesci’s famous “funny how?” scene (as the hot tempered Tommy DeVito). This film remains extremely entertaining while giving a serious commentary about living a life of crime. It is compelling from every angle and is the standard brilliance from mafia master Martin Scorsese.
The trailer speaks for itself:
If you haven’t seen this film yet, here is the first ten minutes. Hopefully it will motivate you to check out the rest of the film!

Here we are again, "assume_away," you question my judgment due to my liking of Stiller's films, yet you question my pic of Goodfellas? Take a look around and read a little bit about film, you will find out that if you don't like Goodfellas you are in a huge minority.

I would never discredit this film. And contrary to your infantile defensive disorder, it has nothing to do with Ben Stiller (especially since I already stated I appreciated his attempts and triumphs in humor). But perhaps when you sport those big boy pants and take the position of Film Editor on a publication such as this seriously, you'll pick (not pic) something other than a basic cable rerun.

I think Leonardo DiCaprio should have gotten the oscar for his role in The Departed.

I agree with assume_away. You should pick something like the anime he watches in his moms basement.
