Bribery, Taxes and Control: The Truth about the Senate Healthcare “Reform”

Arizonans are smart. They always have been. They know a hoodwink when they see one. They can spot a boondoggle when it’s going down. Arizonans see that this legislative monstrosity that is “Obamacare” is a poisonous mix of bribery, taxation, socialism and corporate welfare all wrapped up in a snake-oil bottle forced upon us all in the middle of the night.

Let’s break down what just happened in the US Senate over the past 3 days. The Senate version of the Obamacare bill, in a sleazy party-line vote at 1 am E.S.T., slithered through the necessary political hurtles to set up final passage before Christmas. Here’s what is in store for us Arizonans:

1. Mandated coverage is socialist corporate welfare
Arizonan’s will now be forced (mandated) to purchase insurance through the government “exchange system.” This unconstitutional control over our lives is nothing more than socialism at its worst. You can almost hear Senator Reid shouting, “Come Comrade, enjoy beautiful, efficient governmental exchange system…or else!”

Anybody with a very basic understanding of economics knows that when you increase demand, prices increase. The Democrats’ mandate is forcing that demand for health insurance to increase at a tremendous rate, thereby increasing the costs of healthcare exponentially, while making insurance companies very, very rich. This is nothing more than the largest corporate welfare program in American history.

Don’t believe me? Take a look at Friday, Dec. 18th’s stock prices for insurance companies. (Friday was the day that the Democrats knew they had the numbers to pass Obamacare.) Insurance companies stock enjoyed a 52 YEAR HIGH!

2. Obamacare will raise your taxes and cut your benefits immediately
The Senate version of the bill includes $518 billion in new and higher taxes. In order to pay for their plan, the Democrats are taxing what they call existing “Cadillac” plans. By Cadillac, they mean, average working American’s health insurance (that’s you). Our taxes will go up the second that President Obama signs this bill. Not just the rich, all of us middle class working families.

The boondoggle here is that while your taxes go up, your benefits and coverage actually decrease! The bill has $471 billion in Medicare cuts while 98% of the bills’ spending doesn’t take place until 2014! Seniors and those on fixed incomes will suffer the most under this brutal taxation and benefit reduction in the midst of a major recession.

3. Arizonans will have to pay for bribes given to senators of other states

Ben Nelson and Mary Landrieu, two “blue dog” Democrat senators from the states of Nebraska and Louisiana (respectively) were initial Obamacare holdouts. In what is nothing short of bribery, Harry Reid promised their states hundreds of millions of dollars in pork barrel spending if they cast a “yea” vote. Our taxes will go up and our deficit will increase to pay for this bribery, while Arizona is punished for having senators who are standing up for free markets, low healthcare costs and expanded coverage.

We can do much better than the radical Senate democrats who are controlling our lives. Let’s scrap this bill and rewrite a real reform that truly addresses the needs of Southern Arizona and America at large.
