To be perfectly honest however, what does Ireland want with extra responsibility? They’ve had Britain to run things into the ground for the past 400 years while they play penny pipes and gorge themselves on fried objects of all persuasions. Does this mean that the last captive nation in Europe is free? Or is this just another part of the seemingly endless process of the jagged break-up that was the repetitive rape of Eire? If the Irish people didn’t speak English I bet the UN would care, oh wait they didn’t. So, if the Irish people were another color (say green) as opposed to freckled, I bet someone would care. It takes talent to rape, pillage, and literally level a country for half a millenia yet still manage to receive public appreciation for random little peace offerings that you shouldn’t have the ability to exploit in the first place. ‘Heralding’ this is as ridiculous as a troop of skinheads taking some holocaust survivors out for some Ben & Jerrys. Genocide people, genocide. Maybe someone’s just bitter that Ireland was cheated out of the World Cup, maybe that’s it.
