US Government Commissions Debt-Reducing Microsoft Game

In a dose of “WTF?” news today, the U.S. Government is teaming up with Microsoft to create a debt-reducing videogame.  That’s right, Obama’s fiscal commission co-chairman Erskine Bowles has asked Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to create a tool to help Americans reduce the national debt.  How they will make the joys of balancing a budget relevant to gamers has not yet been speculated.

Most people would consider the thrills balancing a budget provides to be right up there with suffering from uncontrollable diarrhea, in a public place.   Actually, at least that presents you with a few challenges and stories that can be mildly entertaining to share with your friends later.

So what is Bowles expecting Microsoft to do exactly?  Is there some incredible crossover up the pipeline?  Will Master Chief stop double fisting SMGs to pick up a pen and a checkbook?  Or will this just be a stylized MMORPG where my lvl 50 Elf Accountant battles deficit monsters in a feeble attempt to stop the dollar from burning?

No matter what happens, this is a number one contender for worst game ever made. The fact that Bowles’ name can easily be misspelled bowels, is much more entertaining than balancing a budget will ever become.
