Are There Still Jobs Americans Don’t Want to Do?

Whenever the issue of illegal immigration enters the mainstream media, this has and will continue to be a highly raised inquiry. With the recent reactions to Arizona’s newest immigration law, this question has been raised yet again. Not only is this legislation a response to a state’s own daily issues with the threat, Arizona’s government was also taking action for what is best for our country; nonetheless calls of racism and comparisons to the holocaust have been made in addition to this age old question:
When it comes to employment, are there jobs Americans don’t want to do?
To some, the thought of this question brings visions of people tilling acres and acres of farms. However, the jobs that are really being discussed through this are more mainstream and hence, not as risky or challenging. There are different jobs which are being filled by illegal aliens that Americans, especially young citizens, would in fact sign on for. From house painting to gardening, the issue of unemployment’s increase and its current effects on the nation, one has to wonder if this question really is an aspect of defending illegal immigration any more.
Statistics show 80.3% will graduate college this year without a job or to be blunter, 1 million will be jobless post graduation while only 20.7% of recent college graduates will graduate with a job this year. Further, with less recent past college graduates already fighting against CEO’s that are looking for work and have decades of experience, it is the youth that is majorly looking for the other jobs taken by illegal aliens.
What’s worse about this situation is they are the ones who are going to be paying for objectives such as ObamaCare and the student loan “Overhaul” which will have the government controlling many loans’ interest ratings. It has already been reported that while our government borrows at 2.9 percent interest, students will be paying their debt with 6.9 percent interest. Obviously, it is through any job that these students will pay this debt, but if employment is not available the results could be detrimental and will create a ripple effect in their future. The longer a person stays out of work, the worse it will be for them to be experienced for a job once it comes available and there is also a risk to their financial futures, which in turn affects the nation.
Even by being an option, illegal aliens are a risk to the youth’s employment future. The cost for the labor pool regarding the jobs illegal citizens go after has decreased incredibly as a result of illegal aliens just throwing their hat into the ring. Hence, not only are they taking the jobs but also decreasing the value of said jobs just because they are a hiring option.
It seems illegal immigration is very much a double edged sword when it comes to our employment agenda’s and nation’s future. Not only is there a weakening in our employment availability, but the value of such is decreased. Many wonder why President Obama, who stated he was for the youth throughout his entire campaign, doesn’t do something about this as it is his now former fan base. The same people who he needs to keep his job in 2012, that are most affected by this. Nonetheless, illegal immigration is a threat not only to our best educated citizens, but the nation as a whole.

You honestly think Joe Preppy, recent Yale graduate, would sign on to pain houses??? Lady, not only do you severely lack a grasp on the English language, and basic grammar…you severely lack a grasp on reality.

Yes, there are still jobs that Americans won't do. Having interacted with some of them over the last few years, I can offer some reasons why:
1). "That job is beneath me." Some feel that their education, experience, and former status exempt them from doing certain "menial" jobs. In reality, their parents worked their fingers to the bone at those "menial" jobs to feed, clothe, and shelter them. My parents worked, and worked, and worked to feed my siblings and I and I have no problem leaving my plush office environment and getting my hands dirty if I have to. I didn't get an inheritance or an extravagant lifestyle from my parents, but I got one hell of a work ethic.
2). "I want to go right to the top." Most Americans hold "manager" and "director" and "supervisor" in higher regard than they do "Laborer Level 1" or "Farm Hand" or "Technician." Everyone wants to go to college, come into an organization with their Ivy League degree, and take over the operation in six months. Education will never be total replacement for experience and expertise. I know of a couple of guys–one went to Harvard and another went to a highly-ranked business school in the Midwest–who have actually turned down jobs recently because they "want more" than the employers are offering them. My first reaction was to say "WTF!" Both are essentially living off of their spouse's income right now.
3). "What will my friends think?" So the company you worked for went bankrupt and you lost your job. Your so-called friends are still holding on to their jobs at the big investment, design, and marketing firms, but you're now trying to decide whether to apply for the job working in the shoe section at K Mart or the produce section at the local grocery store. But paying your bills isn't the most important thing on your mind. Your BIGGEST concern is what my friends will think when I tell them that I wash and stock fruits and vegetables all day at a local grocery store six days a week. Some of us are embarrassed by what others will say.

4). "Slavery is over." Some blacks (and other races in some situations) feel like "the man is trying to keep us down." So because you don't get to show up late, leave early, lounge around most of the work shift, and gab on your expensive unnecessary cell phones all day, you compare the less lucrative work environment to "a prison" or "concentration camp" or "plantation." How do I know this? I lived in the same household, went to college with, and have worked beside some of these people for most of my life. Yes, there are some who relate any task having to do with hard work, sweat, working for an employer who happens to be white to slavery. "Slavery this…and slavery that…" All I have to say to these people is …REALLY?!
5). "I'm too clean to do that." Some people would do more to keep their overpriced sneakers clean than they will to find and keep a job that may require them to get their hands dirty. Folks, everybody cannot work in the office…there isn't enough room. Someone has to do the real work. My father was a diesel mechanic and he came home every night looking and smelling like he had been dipped in oil and dirt. He did not mind getting dirty because he knew he, his wife, and kids had to eat and live under a roof or end up hungry and on the street. My family lived in and I grew up in a rural area; we had a garden the size of to 6 to 10 square blocks and if you wanted to eat, you worked that garden and milked it for all it was worth. That meant getting sweaty and dirty. And what you didn't eat, you sold or gave to the neighbors.
6."That's too far away or I don't know anybody over there." People, at some point, you need to leave home and make new friends. Mommy and daddy will not be around forever. Those "friends" will still be there…if they were ever your REAL friends. Whatever "ties" you may have to a certain area, you can probably recreate or reproduce elsewhere. One friend refuses to leave "the city" as he calls it to take a job. He has been unemployed for months now and has received three jobs offers in small towns in different states. He could live modestly for a few years and do very well financially and then return to the city once the economy picks back up; however, he refuses to do so. He doesn't want to "live in the country" or live somewhere with "nothing to do." That's another one that makes me ask "WTF?"
Rather than listing more of these, I'll just summarize by saying that all of the "reasons" for Americans not willing to take or do certain jobs are essentially trivial and do not fit in with this fallacy of "success" that we either dream up or breathed upon us by those around us. Again, no one wants to "start at the bottom" anymore unless it comes with an office, paid vacations, an expense account and an opportunity to wear Ralph Lauren, Armani, Dolce & Gabana, or other overpriced attire every day.
I do want to emphasize one more thing: Some people are just plain lazy. This is irrespective of race or sex. I see these people every day at my current job. And it was worse at previous jobs. Some people want to do the "minimum" in order to keep their jobs…and if they can get away with less or nothing at all, they will.

well, there will always be lazy people in every race! but there are a lot of "AMERICAN" people out of work that will work any job. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I have worked those jobs they say us "AMERICANS" will not do. I don't care if it is digging ditches or cleaning toliets, I have done pretty much any and all kinds of dirty work you can come up with.

We "AMERICANS" could and would work those jobs if they weren't being taken away from us. Alot of places will not hire us, they will hire the "ILLEGALS" over us. Because they know they can pay them next to nothing. They are bringing down our wages. It isn't that they are better at working than we are, or will do the jobs we will not do, it is that they will work for nearly nothing. Not all businesses hire illegals though, but those that do causes those that don't to go our of business. Now how fair is that ? And a lot of businesses now you have to know how to speak spanish. What is up with that? Why do we in our own country have to speak spanish before we can get a job ? How fair is that ? This is crazy! I think our country is backasswards!!! they give all the rights to the "ILLEGALS" and snub their noses at the "AMERICANS". They award law breakers and punish the "AMERICANS" I don't get that ! CRAZY!!

I totally disagree. Actually, we americans don't take those hard jobs not because they were taking from us.But because of the weather condition, physical effort, dirt our hands, and etc.
