Tim Tebow according to many media outlets has the number one selling jersey in the NFL. Granted its only been one month of selling the jersey but nonetheless he reins supreme.
The question is why? Why has Denver’s #15 Jersey sold more than Sam Bradford, Ndamukong Su, or Dez Bryant?
Most experts insist that Tebow will not be half the QB that Bradford is going to be. Most experts insist Dez Bryant was a steal towards the end of the first round and was a top five talent. Most experts think Su is going to be the best player to come out of this draft in three years time. Remember, he is outselling everyone in the league right now, not just the rookies I mentioned. Why is Tim Tebow so popular? There is no easy answer but if we look closer we can come up with a couple of legitimate reasons.
The first reason is that the Broncos have been waiting for a savior at the QB spot since Elway. Granted they had that short stint with Jay Cutler, but he never drove the city nuts like Tebow is right now. This is evident by the way they are gobbling up this kid’s jersey.
The head coach has already told everyone who will listen that Tebow will be a QB in his offense. He will not be a converted running back or an H-back. He’s going to helm that team in the years to come. Let’s face it, you don’t move up in the draft into the first round and make a huge reach on a QB with question marks all over his resume unless you believe in him. So Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, move over in two years time and make room for Vitamin T – because that’s his job to earn.
The other reason for “Tebow fever” is the man himself. By all account Tim Tebow is a great guy. Sure he has a little holy roller in him and that turns some people off, but is it as bad as what Lawrence Taylor, Ben Rothlisberger, Adam Pacman Jones, Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes (You get my point here right?) are doing?
I don’t think so. In some corners of the sporting world people are waiting for the other shoe to drop on this kid. They are waiting for him to get completely drunk in the bar and have pictures show up on TMZ. Well, keep waiting because it ain’t going to happen. This kid is genuine. He’s real. He’s a hard-working, G-d-fearing quarterback. He’s just what the NFL needs.
NFL coaches and general managers always reach in the NFL draft and take a guy with extreme talent and questionable character. They say things like, “all the kid needs is a chance.” They say things like, “the things that happened to him were in the past and we trust this kid now.”
I commend Josh McDaniels. I commend him for taking a chance on a outstanding athlete and leader who may not have the quickest release, strongest arm, or the most accuracy, but has impeccable character. Don’t forget everyone, he was good enough at all three of those things in college to win two National Championships and a Heisman trophy.
He doesn’t suck, ladies and gentlemen.
I wouldn’t ever lay a bet against Tim Tebow. This kid is a rare breed. If he can overcome some minor shortcomings in his arm release (which he has already taken major steps to do so), then he is going to be a star in this league. There were a lot of guys who didn’t have the strongest arm or the quickest release and they made a living in the NFL.
I will say it again, don’t sleep on Tim Tebow!
