Yesterday our friend Andrew Plotkin from TheCheapPop.com invited me to accompany him on an exclusive behind the scenes interview with 2010′s break-out band The August Infinity.
For the record, I’m a slightly tatted ex-rocker chick who has known and befriended all sorts of wannabee MCs, rappers, rock bands and the like. So believe me when I say there is NOTHING even remotely wannabee about these guys. They’re the real thing, even with their shirts on.
If you’ve yet to hear of them we apologize, our bad, we’ve failed you as a one stop pop-culture junkie depot. On that note, we also forgive you. Ignorance waives a certain level of responsibility when the repercussions in no way factor into global destruction. Speaking of libtards, these dudes are all sorts of pro-America, which lets face it – turn on.
If you check out their youtube channel (HERE) you’ll notice that the lineup has somewhat evolved over the past year but in a direction that not only amps the groups chemistry among themselves but with their audience as well. Bassist Chris Moss is a southern boy who shortly after misleading me into believing he was in a redneck/white trash rock band, showcased his dexterity and heart by catching some pretty decent air with absolutely no space to land – at all. I was legitimately shocked that their energy was able to be contained in any space, (again) – at all.
There’s another southern boy in the band, but mothers beware; there is nothing more hazardous to your teen daughter than a lyrically inclined lead singer with southern charm, dimples, and love handles that you just love to love. Joshua Hawksley has a range I’ve never seen pulled off without electronic assistance, and for a hottie who’s gotta know it, he’s an absolute sweetheart. He’s the kind of lead singer that you wouldn’t mind being a stupid fanatic over.
Architect by day, rocker my night, Frank Grullon is definitely the Leonardo of their TMNT and an eerie Mike Shinoda look-a-like. The antics that ensued when he repeatedly tried to daddy natural born rocker, Pete Strzelecki, into boarding some sort of sane train definitely remain highlights of the evening.
Pete was born that way, you can’t blame him, but you sure can thank him! And hopefully Ian Pierce will forgive me for saving him for last if I swear to G-d that he invented drumming, I stand by that assertion, the dude is sick nasty with it and probably one of the most down to earth guys on the scene you’ll ever run into.
These are guys who rode roller coasters with fans last week when they played at Six Flags, had an old fashioned water fight during a break in filming, and said thank you so many times you’d think we were doing them the favor. THANK YOU The August Infinity, I can honestly say that that super cramped broken air conditioned band practice was the very best rock show of my life (so far).
So far because these do-gooder dudes from all over America are headlining a Rock for The Cure Benefit Show at Santos Party House in NYC Wednesday with proceeds going towards Cancer and Alzheimer’s. So add the guys on Facebook, Twitter, check out their site for music, and help them find a cure!
We’ll see you all Wednesday, let us know if you’ll be at the show so we can film your response to our new little exploitation. And please believe me when I say, I’ve been in sweat sharing distance from quite a few egos in my day, but I’ve yet to experience anything that remotely compares to being soaked by multiple DNA mixed by pure amazement while trying not to bust a move between speakers in a fifteen by fifteen room with these guys. EPIC!
