Eric Church Leads the ACM Nominations (With 7)

acm-nomineesIf there’s a musical artist who wants to grab the attention of the music industry, and get a slew of award nominations, I suggest that artist sit down and compose a song glorifying Eric Church. After all — it worked for him when he put out the smash hit “Springsteen.” And it certainly put another singer on the map when a high school freshman named Taylor Swift was clever enough to write a song called “Tim McGraw” and put it on the first track of her first album.

Besides, Eric Church has succeeded in playing the music he wants, and on his own terms… and in the current country music industry that deserves a little lionization. If you love rock-solid, always-amazing country music, then the ACM awards nominations should please you. Why? Because Eric Church is in the lead when it comes to nominations this year. His hit, “Springsteen,” which just earned Church a pair of Grammy nominations, received ACM nominations both as the single record and song of the year. He’s also in the running for album of the year with “Chief,” which contains that single, as well as male vocalist, video and vocal event of the year.

The next nominated is rising country star Hunter Hayes, who received six nominations including song and single for his ballad “Wanted” and new male vocalist. Up for the entertainer of the year award are Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift. There aren’t many surprises in this category, which Swift has won three times, including the last two years in a row.

Let’s congratulate Kacey Musgraves for scoring two major nominations: New Female Vocalist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. Here is the video for her song, “Merry Go ‘Round,” written by Musgraves, Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally…

The following is a list of nominees for the 48th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which are handed out Sunday, April 7, in Las Vegas.
